On Tuesday, Meta is set to launch LlamaCon, its inaugural AI developer event, tailored around the Llama family of open AI models. Attendees can anticipate substantial updates geared towards developers, alongside keynotes from Meta’s executives and engaging discussions featuring big tech leaders and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The event will take place at Meta’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, where a select group of developers and journalists will gather. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live through the Meta for Developers Facebook Page and the Meta Developers YouTube channel, making it accessible to a global audience.
The schedule kicks off at 10:15 a.m. Pacific Time with a keynote address from Chris Cox, the Chief Product Officer, along with AI Vice President Manohar Paluri and Generative AI Research Scientist Angela Fan. Following this, Zuckerberg will engage in a fireside chat at 10:45 a.m. with Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi, discussing topics around open-source AI and applications powered by AI. The partnership between Meta and Databricks was cemented earlier this year when Meta became a strategic advisor to the data-centric startup.
Later in the day, Zuckerberg will take part in another fireside chat at 4 p.m. with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. This discussion will delve into contemporary AI trends and offer insights for developers on how to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape.
Meta enters LlamaCon amid significant anticipation, as the recent launch of its Llama 4 generative AI models was met with a lukewarm response from the developer community. Critics noted that Llama 4 lacked the cutting-edge performance of leading models from competitors like OpenAI, DeepMind, Anthropic, and Google. Furthermore, shortly after the launch, Meta faced backlash over allegations of manipulating scores on the crowdsourced AI benchmark, LM Arena. They reportedly optimised a version of their Llama 4 Maverick model for high scores but released a less optimised version for public use.
With LlamaCon, Meta is keen to regain developers’ trust and enthusiasm. The outcome of this event will reveal whether the company can successfully mend its relationship with the developer community and address the challenges it has encountered recently.
