Grok 3 Takes Usage to New Levels of Popularity

by admin

Last week, Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, unveiled Grok 3, its highly anticipated flagship AI model. Grok 3 serves as the foundation for the Grok chatbot applications available on mobile devices and the web, as well as enhancing the Grok experience on the Musk-owned social media platform X.

In a highly competitive AI chatbot landscape, Grok 3’s ability to make a significant impact was uncertain. OpenAI’s ChatGPT, for example, boasts a staggering 400 million active users each week. Yet, early data indicates that the latest iteration of Grok has successfully prompted users to download and engage with the chatbot.

Market intelligence firm Sensor Tower reports that during the week following the launch of Grok 3, both global and U.S. mobile app downloads surged by over 10 times compared to the week prior. Simultaneously, the number of daily active users for Grok’s U.S. app rose more than 260%, while global daily active users increased a remarkable 5 times from the previous week.

Complicating the situation somewhat is the timing of Grok 3’s release, which also coincided with the app’s expansion into various markets across Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. This geographical expansion likely contributed to some of the app’s global growth.

The growth of Grok’s web application during the same timeframe is notable as well, independent of its mobile counterparts. Digital intelligence provider SimilarWeb noted that daily visits to the Grok web app—specifically Grok.com—rose from about 189,000 to over 900,000 following the Grok 3 release. Globally, daily visits skyrocketed from 627,000 to 4.5 million.

These statistics are certainly impressive, but the critical question remains: Can xAI sustain this momentum and keep these users engaged?

Recent controversies, however, pose challenges to the excitement surrounding Grok 3. Over the weekend, the model briefly restricted certain critical references to President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, a change which xAI attributed to an errant employee. Just days prior, users had noticed that Grok 3 consistently stated that both Trump and Musk deserved the death penalty. xAI quickly moved to rectify this issue as well.
