Google has announced an exciting update to its Gemini chatbot application, which now allows users to edit both AI-generated images and those uploaded from personal devices. This new native image editing feature began its rollout on Wednesday and will gradually become available to users across more than 45 languages and various countries over the next few weeks.

However, the potential for misuse raises concerns, particularly relating to deepfake technologies. In addressing these risks, Google has stated that images produced or altered using Gemini’s editing capabilities will carry an invisible watermark, although it has not yet implemented a visible one. The company is also exploring the idea of adding a visible watermark to help clarify which images are AI-generated.
