Google’s Gemini AI App Surpasses 400 Million Monthly Active Users

by admin

Google’s Gemini AI app has surged to over 400 million monthly active users, as highlighted by CEO Sundar Pichai in a press briefing prior to Google I/O 2025. This substantial user base brings Gemini closer to matching OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which recently was reported to have around 600 million monthly users, a figure Google initially estimated at 350 million for Gemini back in March.

The emergence of ChatGPT represents a notable challenge for Google’s search operations, providing users with an engaging, interactive platform to access information. The Gemini app is seen as Google’s primary response to this competition, successfully drawing a portion of users from ChatGPT.

In a strategic move, Google has recently updated its leadership for the Gemini project. Josh Woodward, known for his role in the popular NotebookLM app, has taken the helm to invigorate interest around Google’s AI chatbot. Pichai also mentioned that Google’s AI tools now reach over 1.5 billion users monthly, underlining the company’s commitment to integrating AI across various platforms, including enriching the conversational features in its search engine.

Meanwhile, Meta is also entering the competitive AI chatbot landscape. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta’s AI products boast more than a billion active users across its social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The company has launched its own AI chatbot app aiming to rival giants like ChatGPT and Gemini.

Once the sole player in the chatbot space, ChatGPT now faces robust competition from major technology firms, each vying for a stake in the rapidly evolving AI market.
