Google is currently trialing an innovative feature called “Ask for Me,” which utilizes AI technology to contact local businesses for you, gathering information on availability and pricing. This functionality is accessible on both desktop and mobile for users who have joined Google’s Search Labs initiatives.
This initiative aims to provide users with the ability to obtain information without the hassle of making a phone call and speaking to a representative directly.
Initially, the Ask for Me feature can be used to inquire about services available at establishments such as nail salons and auto repair shops.
If you’re part of Search Labs, simply search for local services like “oil change” or “nail salons nearby.” This will reveal an “Ask for Me” option along with a “Get started” button.

You’ll then be asked to provide specifics about the service you need, such as “tire change,” “scheduled maintenance,” “french manicure,” “nail decor,” and others. After this, you can specify your time preferences. Google’s AI will handle making the calls to local businesses on your behalf and will deliver a summary of their pricing and availability.
This feature is part of Google’s broader effort to streamline the process of getting in touch with businesses through AI technology. Last year, Google introduced a service named “Talk to a Live Rep” which dials a business for you, waits on hold, and notifies you once a representative is free to speak.
This offering eliminates the need for users to endure lengthy waits, sometimes up to hours, listening to hold music while trying to connect with customer support.
In addition to this, Google has recently unveiled “Daily Listen,” a personalized AI-driven audio experience tailored to keep you informed with a custom news feed.
