Google is enhancing Sheets with a Gemini-led upgrade aimed at enabling users to analyze data more efficiently and convert spreadsheets into visual charts powered by AI.
This enhancement allows users to leverage the capabilities of Gemini to extract insights from their data, such as identifying correlations, trends, outliers, and more. Furthermore, users can now create sophisticated visualizations, including heatmaps, which can be added as static images on their spreadsheet cells.
Although the update was initially announced last month, Google confirmed on Friday that it is now accessible to all Workspace business users.
To utilize this feature, users should click the Gemini icon located in the upper right corner of their spreadsheet. They can then ask questions like “forecast my net income for the upcoming quarter based on past data” or “generate a basic heatmap of support cases categorized by device and type.”

Other practical scenarios include a marketing manager requesting Gemini to “Supply insights on my top three channels based on conversion rates” or a financial analyst asking Gemini to “Spot any irregularities in the inventory levels for Product X.”
According to Google, Gemini achieves this by generating and executing Python code, then analyzing the results to conduct comprehensive evaluations. For simpler inquiries, Gemini might provide solutions using formulas instead of Python coding.
The company emphasizes that for accurate analysis, data should be formatted consistently with clear headers and no missing values.
