During the Google I/O 2025 developer conference, Google unveiled Flow, an innovative AI-driven video tool designed specifically for filmmakers. It combines three of Google’s advanced AI models: Veo for video generation, Imagen for image generation, and Gemini for text and prompts.
Flow enhances user creativity by allowing the importation and creation of characters or scenes directly within the platform. Building on the capabilities of last year’s VideoFX tool from Google Labs, Flow aims to attract a broader audience with features tailored for immersive filmmaking.
Among its functionalities are camera control, enabling users to adjust angles and views within scenes, a scene builder for editing and extending shots, and robust asset management tools. In an exciting addition, Google announced “Flow TV,” a curated stream showcasing clips and the exact prompts used, allowing users to understand the creative process of their peers.
Various startups, including Moonvalley, D-ID, Cheehoo, and Hedra, are also developing video solutions in this domain, focusing on making AI-generated filmmaking accessible. However, with Flow, Google signals its intention to play an active role in the AI video generation landscape, moving into the application layer as well.
Flow will initially launch in the United States through Google AI Pro and the new Google AI Ultra plans, providing Pro users with 100 generations monthly and Ultra users with an unspecified, more generous allocation, alongside access to Google’s latest video models.
