Google Introduces Lyria RealTime: A Music-Generating AI Model Integrated into Its API

by admin

At the recent Google I/O 2025 event, Google unveiled its decision to make the AI model behind its experimental music production app, MusicFX DJ, accessible through an API. This AI model, known as Lyria RealTime, is now part of Google’s Gemini API and AI Studio platform.

Lyria RealTime offers a diverse range of features, empowering users to mix various musical genres, adjust instruments, and modify the overall mood of their AI-generated tracks. Users have control over several aspects of their music, including the key, tempo, brightness, and more, enabling a highly interactive music creation experience.

The release of Lyria RealTime occurs in a landscape bursting with AI-driven music applications, such as Udio, Suno, and the new entrant Riffusion, among others. Despite the excitement surrounding these innovations, some AI music apps have drawn controversy for utilising models trained on copyrighted music without securing proper permissions. In contrast, Google promotes Lyria RealTime as a collaborative tool designed for interactive music creation, allowing users to compose, control, and even perform high-quality stereo music at 48kHz.

As of now, Google has not disclosed any pricing information concerning the Lyria RealTime API. The introduction of this cutting-edge technology signifies Google’s commitment to facilitating creativity through AI while navigating the challenges and controversies within the rapidly evolving music technology landscape.
