Google is currently experimenting with a new AI-based Gemini side panel in Google Calendar, designed to help users effortlessly and conversationally check their schedules, create events, and retrieve event information. This innovative feature is part of the tech giant’s early access testing initiative, Google Workspace Labs.
To utilize Gemini, simply click the “Ask Gemini” icon located at the top right corner of your Google Calendar interface. You can either choose a suggested prompt or craft your own requests.
For example, Gemini may prompt you to “Add a lunch event” or “Locate your next meeting” with a specific individual.
If you’re looking for additional suggestions, you can opt for the “More suggestions” feature.

You can also manually enter prompts, such as “What time is my next meeting with Emily?”, “How many meetings do I have scheduled for Monday?”, or “Set up a weekly workout every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 AM.”
The goal of this feature is to eliminate the hassle of manually searching for or adding events to your calendar, using Gemini’s conversational capabilities to streamline the process.
Google Calendar is the latest in the Workspace suite to incorporate the Gemini side panel, which is already functional in Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat. However, the timeline for a broader rollout to additional users remains uncertain.
