At Google I/O 2025, the tech giant introduced an array of innovative AI features aimed at enhancing its Workspace tools, particularly Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Vids. A standout addition to Gmail is the new personalized smart replies, designed to help users craft contextually relevant and tone-appropriate responses. This feature leverages past emails and Google Drive content to suggest replies, thereby streamlining the email drafting process and reducing the time spent searching for information.
Additionally, Gmail will now include an inbox-cleaning tool powered by Gemini, enabling users to streamline their emails by deleting or archiving messages based on specific criteria. For instance, users can instruct Gemini to “Delete all unread emails from The Groomed Paw from last year,” effectively managing email clutter.
Another significant upgrade is a scheduling feature that assists users in arranging appointments with external parties. The capability allows users to propose available time slots for meetings seamlessly, thus minimising scheduling hassles.
Over on Google Docs, a new integration feature allows users to link presentations, data, and reports directly into their documents, ensuring that any writing assistance provided draws from authoritative and relevant sources. This feature is beneficial for generating research summaries or business plans grounded in accurate context.
In the realm of Google Vids, the updates are particularly exciting. Users can now transform existing Google Slides into engaging videos, a feature that promises to be useful for creating dynamic presentations and reports. Gemini facilitates this process by offering support in script generation, voiceovers, animations, and more. This function is expected to be available in the coming months.
For those needing to create videos without the means to film traditional content, Google Vids is introducing AI avatars that can present scripted messages in polished video formats. This solution is ideal for companies looking to produce onboarding materials, product explainers, and other announcements in a professional manner. The avatars will be accessible through Google Labs next month.
Moreover, the Vids platform will enhance its editing features with a transcript trim tool designed to eliminate filler words like “um” and “ah” from videos. Users will also benefit from a new sound balancing feature that adjusts audio levels across their videos. While the sound balancing feature will be available next month, the transcript trimming tool will be introduced in Labs soon after.
Finally, Google showcased its latest image-generation model, Imagen 4, which will enable users to create more intricate visuals within Workspace applications, including Slides, Vids, and Docs.
All of these features are set to make their debut in the coming months, marking an exciting advancement in Google’s AI capabilities within its Workspace tools.
