At Google I/O 2025, the tech giant introduced an array of innovative AI features for its Workspace tools, including Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Vids.
Among the highlights, Gmail will now feature personalised smart replies that adapt to the user’s context and tone, drawing on past emails and content from Google Drive. This addition aims to streamline email composition by providing contextually relevant suggestions, ultimately eliminating the need to sift through existing messages and files. Furthermore, a new inbox-cleaning tool will enable users to instruct Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, to delete or archive unwanted emails, such as saying, “Delete all of my unread emails from The Groomed Paw from last year.”
Another exciting feature in Gmail is the enhanced scheduling capability, which simplifies the appointment-setting process with those outside an organisation. Gemini will assist in identifying suitable times, saving users precious time coordinating meetings.
Switching to Google Docs, users can now link presentations and reports directly, allowing the AI to offer writing suggestions based solely on trusted sources. This ensures that users’ work remains relevant and grounded in accurate data, pivotal for tasks like research summaries and business plans.
Google Vids is also set to transform content creation by allowing users to convert Google Slides presentations into videos. This functionality not only facilitates the creation of engaging visual content but also includes features for generating scripts, voiceovers, and animations, all slated for general release in the coming months.
Additionally, Vids will introduce AI avatars, enabling users without the resources to create videos to still produce polished content. Users can draft a script and select an avatar to convey their message, which is particularly useful for onboarding videos or product explanations.
Moreover, a new “transcript trim” tool will automatically eliminate filler words such as “um” and “ah” from videos. Accompanying this, the “balance sound” feature will help users adjust audio levels throughout their projects, enhancing overall production quality.
Finally, Google announced the launch of Imagen 4, its latest image-generation model, which will enhance visual creation capabilities across Workspace applications like Slides, Vids, and Docs.
All these exciting features are set to become available over the next few months, marking a significant step forward for Google’s Workspace suite.
