Gmail Introduces ‘Add to Calendar’ Button Enhanced by Gemini

by admin

A remarkable new feature in Gmail, fueled by Google’s Gemini AI, is now available for Google Workspace users. Beginning Monday, individuals can easily create events in Google Calendar from their emails.

Gemini will intelligently identify calendar-related information within an email and display an “Add to calendar” button. Upon clicking this button, a side panel in Gmail will appear to confirm that the event has been successfully added to the calendar.

As noted in a blog post by Google, this feature is currently available only in English and solely on the web. Events added through the “Add to calendar” button will not include any additional guests and won’t be displayed for emails containing already-extracted events such as restaurant or flight bookings.

The new feature is accessible to users on Google Workspace Business and Enterprise plans, as well as those subscribed to Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium. Additionally, users who previously acquired the now-discontinued Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons are also eligible. Administrators can activate the “Add to calendar” function by enabling smart features and personalization in the Workspace Admin console.

This “Add to calendar” function is the latest tool from Gemini to enhance the Gmail experience. In June 2024, Google introduced new functionalities to Gmail on the web to assist users in composing emails, summarizing conversation threads, and extracting specific information from their inbox. These capabilities were also rolled out to the Gmail apps for iOS and Android towards the end of last year.
