Franki’s Application Rewards Users for Sharing Video Critiques of Neighborhood Eateries

Franki is an innovative app combining social networking and video reviews for the culinary community. It allows users to connect, share their dining experiences through videos, and uncover new local eateries.

The app has recently revamped its image, introducing the “Social Club” rewards scheme. This innovative program compensates users for their content, offering cash back on purchases made through the app with a linked payment method. The intent behind this new feature is to increase user engagement and support for local culinary establishments.

This week, Franki unveiled “Adventures,” an engaging feature designed to help users discover restaurants in a fun and interactive way akin to a treasure hunt.

Since its launch in 2021, Franki positions itself as the go-to platform for authentic restaurant reviews, veering away from traditional text-based ratings. The shift towards visual and genuine content comes as a response to growing skepticism towards unreliable online reviews, recently addressed by the FTC’s crackdown on fabricated reviews. Consumers now seek out real experiences shared on social platforms.

Eugene Varriccho, CEO and co-founder, shared with TechCrunch the evolving consumer behavior and the cumbersome nature of sifting through multiple sources for dining decisions. He highlighted a common sentiment regarding the reliability of reviews on major platforms, pointing out the skepticism surrounding the authenticity of these ratings.

The Social Club by Franki introduces a rewarding cashback mechanism, incentivizing both repeat patronage and content creation. Users who link their banking or credit card through Plaid and engage on the platform by promoting eateries can withdraw their earnings directly from an in-app wallet.

When registered customers visit designated eateries and utilize a cashback promotion, they receive a 5% rebate on their expenditure. Video content creators enjoy an additional 1% cashback, with bonuses also available for influencing others’ purchase decisions via their posts.

Highlighting the app’s impact, Nick Bennet, co-founder and CPO, recounted a case where a video post led to significant sales for a local business, showcasing the advantageous connection Franki creates between businesses and content creators.

Franki enriches user engagement through gamified experiences, offering “Adventures” for exploration and “Gigs” which challenge users to submit video reviews for cash rewards. One example includes rewarding users for sharing enticing clips of their frosty dessert purchases.

Moreover, Franki’s “Level Up” incentives motivate continued app usage by unlocking more significant rewards as users climb tiers within the Social Club, alongside referral bonuses for inviting friends.

While other restaurant discovery apps with rewards exist, such as Mogl and InKind, Franki distinguishes itself with its video-centric approach that benefits content creators.

Franki’s presence spans 30 cities across the U.S., with ambitions for nationwide and eventually international expansion. The objective is to broaden its scope to include various experiences, aiming for coverage in key travel destinations by 2026.

Franki’s integration with OpenTable facilitates seamless dining reservations, highlighting its rapid growth and the significant payouts to its creator community. The company’s leadership is optimistic about reaching ambitious revenue targets in the coming years.

With a solid base of monthly active users and expanding restaurant listings, Franki is available for both iOS and Android users, marking its territory in the digital dining space.
