As the smart pet wearable market is projected to reach $3.69 billion by 2024, a new startup is launching an innovative dog collar and tracker that connects directly to satellite systems, eliminating the need for an LTE connection.
During CES 2025, SATELLAI showcased its cutting-edge pet tracker and smart collar, which not only tracks health and activity but also includes an AI coach feature via a companion app, providing personalized advice on dog training and care.
Founded by Mark Mao, the current CEO who previously worked with Huami—the makers of the Amazfit fitness tracker—SATELLAI arose from Mao’s concern when he found his dog injured while he was away. The intelligent collar incorporates seven different sensors to monitor a dog’s health, including metrics like heart rate and breathing, according to the company.
While many pet trackers and smart collars are on the market, SATELLAI claims its products offer unique advantages. Notably, the tracker is powered by a Qualcomm 9205S modem, allowing direct satellite communication without needing traditional signals like LTE. This feature enables continuous location tracking, even in remote areas where cellular coverage is not available—marking it as the first dog tracker to utilize this satellite connection method.
Additionally, the tracker includes a built-in solar panel that charges while the dog wears it. SATELLAI also provides a harness to easily attach the tracker.
The SATELLAI collar further enhances its capabilities with dual signal transmitters for the L1 and L5 GPS signals, enhancing positional accuracy even in densely obstructed environments. The company asserts that employing both signal types is beneficial in areas with obstacles—like trees or buildings—that may interfere with signal clarity.
Moreover, features such as virtual fencing and various correction methods are incorporated to reduce excessive barking and prevent dogs from accessing restricted areas like pools or thorny foliage.
Planned for release in February, SATELLAI’s smart collar will be complemented by the tracker, which is expected to launch in the spring. The pricing details for either product are yet to be finalized.
