Epic Games, the Creator of ‘Fortnite,’ Introduces Its App Store for iOS in the European Union and Globally on Android

by admin

Epic Games, renowned for developing Fortnite, disclosed this Friday that its new iOS app marketplace has debuted in the European Union. Additionally, the Epic Games Store has rolled out globally on Android devices.

This fresh marketplace kicks off featuring titles like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. Epic Games mentions its collaboration with developers to feature more of their gaming titles on the Epic Games Store going forward.

Moreover, Epic Games aims to extend its offerings to the independent mobile storefront, AltStore PAL, which, as of yesterday, will offer its app marketplace for free, powered by a grant from Epic Games.

Looking ahead, Epic Games has aspirations to feature its games on Aptoide’s iOS marketplace within the EU and also on the ONE Store for Android platforms, as stated by the company.

The reintroduction of Fortnite on iOS materializes over four years following its removal by Apple from its App Store. This comeback is underscored by prolonged legal disputes with Apple, alongside shifts in regulations, chiefly the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which mandates Apple to welcome new market entrants.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, remarked, “The turning point is here, and the mobile ecosystem is embracing competition at last,” celebrating the European Commission’s role in enabling the launch of the Epic Games Store for iOS users in the European Union. “Now, iOS users in Europe and Android users globally have access to our store and games, mirroring the openness seen on platforms like PC and Mac. While the battle is ongoing, this represents significant progress for developers and consumers, who are starting to enjoy the benefits of competition and choice,” he added.

Epic Games has also released instructional videos to assist users in installing the Epic Games Store on iOS and Android.

According to Epic Games, the installation process for the Epic Games Store on iOS and Android is currently complex, a situation they attribute to Apple and Google’s strategy to degrade the quality of alternative installation experiences through convoluted steps, perplexing device settings, and intimidating warning screens.

The inauguration of the Epic Games Store introduces a significant competitor to Apple’s stronghold, challenging the dominance of the App Store for the very first time.
