Deezer has unveiled a cutting-edge AI playlist creation tool in its music streaming service. On Monday, the company revealed that a limited group of premium subscribers will now have the ability to generate personalized playlists using a novel “Playlist with AI” feature through text commands.
This development occurs shortly after similar AI-driven playlist tools were experimented with by Spotify and Amazon Music among their user base. Furthermore, it’s reported that YouTube is exploring an AI-driven radio service that operates on user inputs, according to information shared recently.
According to Deezer, 5% of its paid membership will gain early access to this experimental feature. This allows them to craft playlists based on textual descriptions of emotions, music genres, eras, actions, and more.
For example, a user might request Deezer to compile a pop-rock hits playlist from the early 2000s for an exercise session. Or perhaps, put together a cheerful playlist from the 2010s for studying.
The application checks to ensure that the text prompts submitted by users are devoid of any hate speech, dangerous substance, sexually explicit material, or harassment before it begins creating a playlist.
“Introducing this AI-driven solution to Deezer subscribers worldwide is thrilling,” expressed Alexandra Leloup, the VP of product at Deezer, during a press announcement. “Whether you’re in search of the ideal mixture for exercising, a romantic night, or a reflective journey through past memories, our Playlist with AI service will quickly tailor-make a fresh musical journey, simplifying the discovery of new tunes significantly.”
The feature, as revealed to TechCrunch by the company, operates on Google’s advanced Gemini 1.5 AI model.
Deezer highlights its ongoing utilization of AI to better its recommendation system and enrich the platform’s overall listening experience. The company pointed out that its Flow feature, which crafts mixes based on listener’s mood and genre preferences, and its Song Catcher tool, akin to Shazam, for identifying song names, both benefit from AI technology.
The broader release timeline for the Playlist with AI beta feature by Deezer remains unspecified.
