CodeSignal Introduces AI-Powered Guide to Help You Enhance Your Soft Skills

by admin

Both startups and major technology firms have been leveraging AI to support developers in coding and enhancing their programming skills. Individuals have utilized chatbots for a variety of situations like interviews. Today, CodeSignal, a platform focused on tech assessments, revealed new soft skill courses on its platform, following last year’s launch of an AI-assisted learning platform aimed at technical subjects.

Historically, the high costs associated with hiring executive coaches for leadership and communication training meant that only top-tier executives could afford such services. However, CodeSignal aims to democratize this by leveraging AI models to develop a comprehensive practice and learning system that makes coaching accessible to a broader audience.

According to CodeSignal CEO Tigran Sloyan, many organizations are increasingly hiring non-technical personnel, creating an opportunity to train these individuals across various professional domains.

“With the rise of generative AI, we recognized a chance to tap into an entirely new realm of soft skills, such as leadership and sales training, alongside negotiation tactics. We believe that practical, hands-on training is the most effective way to master a skill, which is why, after introducing technical training, we are venturing into this new domain,” Sloyan explained.

CodeSignal has launched over 100 courses, covering topics such as conducting effective one-on-one meetings, strategic leadership evaluations, behavioral assessments, sales skills assessments, and public speaking enhancement.

Users can select from these courses or request the AI assistant to help them find suitable options, allowing them to engage in practice scenarios based on specific descriptions. This interaction includes voice communication with the AI character in the simulation. CodeSignal opted to develop its own voice technology, as opposed to using third-party solutions like ElevenLabs’ conversational platform, to ensure long-term cost-effectiveness. Upon concluding your conversation, the AI assistant provides feedback and highlights areas for improvement.

Users tapping into the AI assistant for feedback deplete one of the energy bars from their energy meter; free users, who make up 90% of the base, only receive a limited daily amount of energy. For $24.99, users can unlock unlimited interactions with the AI assistant.

As users complete their courses and practice sessions, they progress through various skill levels identified as developing, intermediate, advanced, and expert.

CodeSignal also offers bespoke enterprise plans that tailor courses to align with a company’s knowledge base and cultural values. In these customized offerings, organizations can select AI characters with varying personalities to allow professionals to rehearse real-world scenarios.

That said, the incorporation of cultural sensitivity relative to specific regions and corporate cultures remains a concern. If neglected, the training programs may yield uncomfortable experiences for participants.

HR consultant Sumit Singla from India commented that while AI may advocate for assertiveness in certain instances, this approach could be inappropriate in specific locales.

“AI might promote a style of ‘radical candor’ in feedback, but in environments that favor indirect communication, this can be counterproductive. The tool risks misunderstanding humor, sarcasm, or culturally nuanced expressions, potentially leading to awkward or inappropriate responses during training,” Singla noted.

He acknowledges that while AI can be advantageous for practicing skills in a pressure-free context, there remains a risk that the tool may lack emotional intelligence and situational awareness in certain scenarios.

“In training, we emphasize the importance of ‘reading the room.’ AI cannot adapt to different personalities, work settings, or leadership styles. The development of soft skills is highly individualized, and AI does not always provide context-sensitive feedback,” Singla explained.

Sloyan stated that CodeSignal endeavors to integrate substantial cultural and personality contexts into its offerings; however, he recognized that this is an ongoing, iterative journey. He mentioned that the platform also develops cultural templates when entering new markets and regions.

Supported by Menlo Ventures and Index Ventures, CodeSignal isn’t the sole player utilizing AI for soft skills training. Microsoft LinkedIn has explored AI-integrated tools for similar educational content. Currently, CodeSignal primarily interacts with its users via its website, with plans to launch iOS and Android applications later this year to broaden its outreach.
