The debut of OpenAI’s GPT-4o, termed the “omni” model, in May, has significantly boosted the revenue of the ChatGPT application. Following its launch, the application experienced a notable surge, achieving its highest monthly revenue to date. In July alone, the app garnered $28 million in net revenue across both the App Store and Google Play, as reported by Appfigures, a company specializing in app analytics.
It’s important to note that the net revenue figure indicates the amount retained by OpenAI after the deduction of in-app purchase commissions by Apple and Google. Additionally, Appfigures’ research highlighted that a significant 83% of the total app revenue originated from Apple’s App Store, marking a 20% increase from June.

The GPT-4o model has empowered ChatGPT with the capabilities to process text, voice, and video inputs, provide quicker response times, and allow for interruptions during interactions. These enhancements have made engagements with the AI more fluid and lifelike, among other advancements.
The demand for this revolutionary technology led to a 40% increase in the ChatGPT app’s revenue in May, as per Appfigures. Although the growth rate slightly decelerated afterward, the revenue trajectory remained on an upward curve.
Appfigures estimates that the revenue generated in July contributed to ChatGPT securing 2 million additional paying subscribers, setting another record for the app.
With the recent introduction of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, offering interactions that closely mimic real-time, genuine human dialogue, Appfigures anticipates further growth in the foreseeable future.
