Cadillac has unveiled its luxurious flagship electric vehicle, the Celestiq, priced at $360,000, nearly three years after its concept was first introduced. Designed to catch the eye, the Celestiq aims to help Cadillac reclaim its status as the “Standard of the World.” A recent test drive through Los Angeles reveals its blend of opulence and advanced technology.

Upon entering, the Celestiq impresses with its premium materials, including plush leather seats that are adjustable and adorned with meticulous craftsmanship—some components even utilise 3D printing technology. Nonetheless, the unique battery module design has led to a rather limited centre console storage, which only fits small items like a wallet.

The Celestiq is equipped with a 111 kWh battery boasting a range of 303 miles. Notably, the car features an eye-catching design with a distinctive front light signature and an elegant silhouette. Despite its large footprint, which exceeds that of a Chevrolet Silverado, the car boasts rear-wheel steering, enhancing its manoeuvrability on LA’s challenging roads.

Driving the Celestiq, a powerful experience is felt through its 655 horsepower and 646 pound-feet of torque. The Magnetic Ride Control ensures smooth handling, even on uneven surfaces, while the air suspension provides comfort without compromising performance. Advanced features, such as the Dolby Atmos sound system and GM’s Super Cruise driver-assistance technology, add to the driving experience.

However, despite its many merits, the Celestiq suffers from connectivity issues. The Google-based interface struggles with device integration, particularly for hands-free calls and texts—an inconvenience for luxury customers expecting seamless functionality.

Inside, the Celestiq’s technology shines with a sweeping display spanning 55 inches, including individual passenger screens and climate control options. Yet, the lack of physical controls for crucial functions like air conditioning raises concerns about accessibility. Additional touches, like massaging seats and a dimmable glass roof, enhance the luxurious feel, although some features are curiously absent.

Each Celestiq is meticulously handcrafted at GM’s Michigan facility, offering a bespoke experience where customers can choose from a plethora of design options. The purchase journey includes tailored services, enhancing the overall ownership experience.

In the ultra-luxury EV space, the Celestiq stands out—though competition is sparse, with rivals like the Rolls-Royce Spectre and Bentley’s more conventional offerings. Cadillac plans limited production, anticipating high demand despite the lack of clear figures for the following years.
