Bluesky Embraces AI with Attie: An App for Creating Personalized Feeds

by admin

Bluesky has introduced a new app, Attie, which serves as an AI assistant, allowing users to design algorithms and create custom content feeds rather than functioning as a traditional social network. This announcement was made during the Atmosphere conference, where Jay Graber, Bluesky’s Chief Innovation Officer, alongside CTO Paul Frazee, presented Attie. The app, which incorporates capabilities from Anthropic’s Claude AI, aims to empower users by enabling them to personalise their social media experiences using natural language commands.

Interim CEO Toni Schneider emphasised that Attie is a standalone product, separate from the existing Bluesky application. Users can log in with their Atmosphere credentials to interact with the platform, which will recognise their interests and preferences, offering tailored content suggestions. Schneider noted that this development represents a significant shift towards user empowerment, allowing individuals to curate their feeds without requiring technical coding skills.

Additionally, Schneider expressed a desire for AI to serve people, not just platforms, highlighting the need for an open protocol that prioritises user experience and content relevance. The long-term vision for Attie includes enabling users to create their own apps and tools on the platform, fostering a collaborative ecosystem.

The initiative comes as Bluesky recently secured $100 million in funding, providing it with a stable financial foundation for the next several years. This funding will allow the team to focus on enhancing privacy features and exploring monetisation options, such as potential subscription models or community hosting services. Importantly, Schneider assured users that there are no plans for cryptocurrency integration within the app, despite engagement from crypto investors.

Overall, Schneider sees potential for the Atmosphere framework, akin to the success of WordPress, where a decentralised ecosystem supports diverse applications and services. The ultimate goal is to facilitate a cooperative environment where various apps thrive together, thereby creating a sustainable and prosperous digital community.
