As of June 2023, Investment Portfolios Linked to Bill Ackman, Binance, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Were Among X’s Shareholders

In a recent legal mandate, Elon Musk’s X was compelled to disclose its complete shareholder registry to the general public as of June 2023.

Several well-known entities within the tech sphere were previously identified as contributors to Musk’s acquisition and privatization of the entity formerly recognized as Twitter. Among them were venture capital entities like Andreessen Horowitz, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Sequoia Capital, alongside Oracle’s Larry Ellison and the cryptocurrency firm Binance.

An unnoticed participant until now was musician Sean “Diddy” Combs, who made an investment through Sean Combs Capital. Another notable investor is Bill Ackman, a high-profile activist investor involved in controversial activism within Ivy League schools, sharing in the investment through Pershing Square Foundation. The venture capital firm 8VC, initiated by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale and noted for its connections with Russian oligarchs, is also on the shareholder roster.

Several named investors held stakes in Twitter prior to Musk’s acquisition. For instance, Twitter’s co-founder Jack Dorsey and Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al Saud chose to convert their Twitter shares into shares of the now named X.

The legal document with the shareholder details was filed on June 9, 2023, but only became accessible to the public this week following a successful plea by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press representing freelance journalist Jacob Silverman.

In his report revealing the investor list, Silverman noted that while the identities of many supporters of Musk were already public knowledge, and despite the document not detailing the sizes of the investments, it serves as “an excellent reference for journalists, academics, regulatory bodies, activists, and anyone interested in the inner workings of this influential corporation.”
