As Instagram Sees Increased Engagement in Stories, the App Introduces a New Commenting Functionality

by admin

Instagram is unveiling a new feature designed to enhance interactions among its users within its Stories function. This update introduces the capability for followers to leave comments on each other’s Stories, creating a more communal atmosphere similar to that of livestreaming platforms, where participants can partake in broader conversations.

The functionality has already been noticed by a handful of users, such as marketing expert Taylor Loren (@taylor.loren on Threads). Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, shared a glimpse of it on the company’s internal Channel as well. (Refer to below).

Instagram has made it clear that there will be an option for users to turn off the commenting feature on their Stories should they choose to.

This initiative appears to be driven by observations of user engagement patterns. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has shared insights indicating the Stories feature’s prominence and popularity compared to traditional feed posts. A notable number of users also show a preference for interacting through private messages, enjoying communications within private circles.

Introducing public commenting on Stories underscores Instagram’s continuous push to foster more interactive and engaging experiences for its users. Among the platform’s newest enhancements are features allowing the addition of music to user profiles, and a “Reveal” option that lets content creators hide Stories until followers respond with a direct message.
