Apple Introduces Emergency Satellite Capabilities for iPhone 13 with iOS 18.5 Update

by admin

On Monday, Apple unveiled iOS 18.5, extending emergency satellite features to iPhone 13 users for the first time. These capabilities, previously exclusive to iPhone 14 and newer models, are integral for contacting emergency services when cellular networks or Wi-Fi are unavailable. The system allows users to text via satellite, share information with emergency contacts, and request roadside assistance.

The latest update harnesses carrier satellite services like T-Mobile’s partnership with Starlink. Users can verify access to these features in the Cellular settings on their devices. The emergency satellite functionality has reportedly been instrumental in saving lives, aiding lost or injured hikers, rescuing individuals from wildfires, among other critical situations.

While the introduction of satellite emergency services for iPhone 13 is a significant highlight of iOS 18.5, the update also includes several smaller enhancements. It introduces a feature in Screen Time, Apple’s parental control application, which notifies parents if their child successfully enters the parent’s passcode to adjust Screen Time settings.

Other notable improvements encompass an updated Mail app that provides a dedicated “All Mail” tab, a new Pride-themed wallpaper, and a simplified subscription process for content via the Apple TV app on smart TVs. Additionally, the update resolves a glitch causing the Apple Vision Pro app to display a black screen when downloaded from the App Store, along with fixing bugs related to Siri and enterprise applications.

iOS 18.5 was released in tandem with iPadOS 18.5, primarily focused on fixing existing bugs, alongside updates for visionOS 2.5, watchOS 11.5, and security patches for macOS Ventura and macOS Sonoma.
