Anthropic introduced its Claude Android application on Tuesday, aiming to expand the reach of its AI chatbot to a broader audience. This move is part of Anthropic’s strategy to persuade users to switch from ChatGPT by offering Claude across more platforms.
Similar to its iOS counterpart launched in May, the Claude Android app provides users with free access to Anthropic’s premier AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet. It also offers enhanced features through Anthropic’s Pro and Team memberships. The app enables users to synchronize their interactions with Claude across various devices and to upload images or documents for instantaneous image analysis. One of the unique features of the Claude Android app is its ability to translate languages in real-time, a function Anthropic believes will encourage more people to use the app.
The application also facilitates enterprise customers in managing their Claude accounts from their mobile devices.
Despite Anthropic’s assertion that its AI technologies are on par with those developed by OpenAI and Google, the startup has found it challenging to attract consumers. The Claude app for iOS had a lukewarm debut, with 157,000 downloads globally in its first week, compared to ChatGPT’s iOS app, which garnered 480,000 installations in its initial five days.
