Android Introduces Auracast Support for Hearing Aids to Access Public Audio Streams

by admin

On Thursday, Google unveiled that its Android phones will soon incorporate Auracast, a cutting-edge Bluetooth technology that facilitates a direct link between hearing aids and audio broadcasts, particularly advantageous in noisy settings. This capability enables compatible hearing aids and earbuds to stream audio seamlessly from various sources, such as public address systems at train stations or sound broadcasts at concerts.

With Auracast, users can tailor audio streams to their specific hearing needs, thanks to the application of personalised hearing aid presets. This feature is set to enhance accessibility and the overall listening experience in public spaces.

Initially, the Auracast feature will be available for Samsung Galaxy devices featuring One UI 7 and Google Pixel 9 smartphones operating on the latest beta of Android 16. It is compatible with LE Audio hearing aids from several brands, including GN Hearing and Starkey.

In addition to Auracast, Google has introduced a new functionality for Pixel 9 models that allows users to connect to audio broadcasts via QR codes. This innovation simplifies the process, eliminating the need for users to adjust settings to access public audio streams.

The Android 16 beta further extends its accessibility offerings with a feature that enables users with low vision to outline text for improved readability. Additionally, a new Local Network Protection (LNP) feature is integrated, granting users greater control over which applications have access to their local network devices.

The full release of Android 16 is anticipated to occur in June, marking an exciting advancement in auditory accessibility for mobile device users.
