Amazon Music has announced the testing of a new feature called “Explore,” which leverages AI to enhance the user experience by providing deeper insights into their favourite artists. This new functionality is accessible through the app’s “Find” button, where users can search for an artist’s name and then select the “Explore” tab to uncover a wealth of information. This can include details about collaborations, connections to other artists, and highlights from the artist’s music catalogue.
For instance, if a user searches for Jelly Roll, the AI feature will reveal significant collaborations, like his duet “Save Me” with Lainey Wilson. The Explore feature also serves as a promotional tool for Amazon Music, showcasing exclusive original content such as Jelly Roll’s unique cover of “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” featuring T-Pain.
Furthermore, users can create AI-generated playlists, amplifying Amazon Music’s efforts to compete with rivals like Spotify, which previously launched its own AI DJ feature named Maestro. The integration of Maestro into Explore is likely a strategic move to attract more users to experiment with AI-generated playlists.
The launch of Explore comes in the wake of Amazon raising the price of its Music Unlimited subscription by $1, now set at $11 per month. This move seems to be part of a broader strategy to encourage subscriptions by introducing engaging new features.
Currently, the Explore feature is being rolled out to select Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers in the U.S. using iOS devices. However, its beta version is limited to only 10,000 artists, including leading names like Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK, highlighting the selective scope of this new tool as it seeks to enrich user engagement.
