Amazon Alexa+ Priced at $19.99, Free for Prime Subscribers

by admin

Amazon has announced its enhanced Alexa experience, named Alexa+, which will be available for $19.99, or at no cost for Amazon Prime members. The service will begin early access in the United States next month, with broader availability rolling out in stages over the following months, as indicated by the company.

The Alexa+ upgrade will first be available on the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 models. However, it remains uncertain whether other devices, including the Echo Dot and Echo Pop that focus solely on audio, will be included in this update, as Amazon has not clarified this.

Alongside the launch of Alexa+, Amazon is introducing Alexa.com, a new web platform aimed at facilitating “long-form” functionalities. Additionally, there’s a newly redesigned Alexa mobile app that includes an upgraded interface and features.

“With the advent of generative AI and a completely restructured Alexa, we’re transitioning from traditional chatbots to an entirely new paradigm,” stated Panos Panay, Amazon’s devices and services lead, during an event held in New York City on Wednesday.

Priced at $19.99, Alexa+ stands competitively alongside other generative AI chatbots currently available. For reference, OpenAI’s basic ChatGPT plan and Google’s premium Gemini assistant, Gemini Advanced, both also retail for $19.99.

However, this pricing is notably above earlier speculation. Reports had indicated that Amazon might set a price range between $5 and $10 for the updated Alexa, potentially including a generous introductory free trial.
