Amazon has unveiled its enhanced Alexa experience, labeled Alexa+, which is priced at $19.99 or available for free to Amazon Prime members. According to the company, early access for this feature will commence next month, followed by a phased rollout to a broader audience over the coming months.
In conjunction with the launch of Alexa+, Amazon is also introducing Alexa.com, a new online platform tailored for “long-form” engagement. Additionally, a revamped Alexa mobile app featuring a new design and enhanced functionality is set to debut.
“With the advent of generative AI and a significantly re-engineered Alexa, we are transitioning from traditional chatbots to something completely different,” stated Panos Panay, Amazon’s chief of devices and services, during his presentation.
Priced at $19.99, Alexa+ stands competitively alongside other generative AI-driven chatbots currently available. For instance, both OpenAI’s baseline paid ChatGPT plan and the premium version of Google’s Gemini assistant, known as Gemini Advanced, are also priced at $19.99.
However, this price point exceeds previous speculation. Reports indicated that Amazon had considered a range of $5 to $10 for the upgraded Alexa, potentially accompanied by an extensive free trial period.
