AI Summaries Are Coming to Your Work Gmail Inbox

by admin

At the recent Google Cloud Next conference, Google unveiled several updates focused on its Workspace offerings, prominently featuring the introduction of the AI Overviews feature in Gmail. This initiative is designed to enhance user experience by employing artificial intelligence to summarise search results and email content, streamlining the way workplace users interact with their messages.

With the new AI Overviews capability, Gmail users can pose questions in natural language and receive succinct answers without needing to sift through numerous emails. This functionality is anticipated to facilitate quick access to vital information typically conveyed through email, including inquiries about project milestones, performance evaluations, invoices, and other business-related topics.

The AI Overviews tool compiles instant summaries by aggregating data from various emails and conversations, making it easier for users to find relevant information quickly. While some users may prefer traditional methods over AI-assisted searches, reliance on such technology is increasingly becoming standard practice both within Google’s ecosystem and across the broader internet.

For users to enable this feature, Google stipulates that certain settings must be active, including the Gemini for Workspace in Gmail and Workspace Intelligence access. Additionally, users should have “Smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet” and “Google Workspace smart features” activated.

Previously, this AI summary capability was available solely to consumers with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. However, Google is expanding access to business, enterprise, and education users through several product tiers, including:

– Business: Starter, Standard, Plus
– Enterprise: Starter, Standard, Plus
– Consumers: Google AI Pro and Ultra
– Other Editions: Frontline Plus
– AI Add-ons: Google AI Pro for Education

Moreover, Google announced that AI Overviews in Drive will also become widely accessible to eligible Workspace and Google AI plan users, moving beyond its beta testing phase. This expansion aligns with Google’s ongoing commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance productivity and streamline workflows for users across various sectors.
