Aether Fuels, an E-fuels Startup, Seeks to Raise $34.3 Million, According to Latest Filing

by admin

Aether Fuels has successfully secured $30.4 million in a funding round targeting $34.3 million, as reported in a document filed with the SEC.

This e-fuels venture is focused on developing aviation and maritime fuels created from carbon dioxide and other waste carbon materials. This financial boost, as per the new funding round, supplements the company’s reserves; Aether Fuels had earlier garnered $8.5 million through convertible notes towards the end of 2023.

Originating from Xora Innovation, a deep-technology incubator powered by Temasek, the startup has since not made an official comment in response to inquiries.

Aether Fuels has been enhancing its innovative technology aimed at utilizing carbon from various waste sources such as industrial emissions, methane from landfill sites, and agricultural remnants.

The specifics on how Aether Fuels manages to transform carbon dioxide into fuel remain largely undisclosed. However, a patent submission from January hints at a method that incorporates natural gas. This procedure involves gasifying solid waste, combining it with natural gas, and then converting this mixture into liquid fuel, capturing residual carbon dioxide in the process.

In February, the company revealed an exclusive licensing agreement and partnership with GTI Energy, which focuses on natural gas and has pioneered a gas-to-liquid technology.

With a keen interest in reducing their carbon footprint, the aviation and maritime sectors are exploring bio-derived fuels and e-fuels as sustainable alternatives. Despite these endeavors, the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), for instance, is still in its infancy, representing less than 0.1% of global consumption, with e-fuels trailing even further behind in development.
