In October, Adobe introduced a new AI-powered assistant, initially known as “Project Moonlight,” which is now being launched as the Firefly AI Assistant. This tool will soon be available in public beta, although Adobe has not clarified whether it will differ in pricing from Firefly’s existing subscription options.
The Firefly AI Assistant aims to streamline workflows by allowing users to express their creative desires, and it leverages various Adobe applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere to fulfil these requests. Users can manipulate outputs using text prompts, alongside buttons and sliders, enabling a more interactive experience. The assistant is designed to not only suggest actions but also to execute tasks across multiple applications, adjusting based on user preferences over time.
One of the promising features includes context-sensitive controls tailored to specific projects. For example, if a user is working on editing a product photo set in a wooded environment, the assistant might provide a slider to modify the density of trees. Alongside this, Adobe is rolling out multi-step “skills” for the assistant, such as a “social media assets” skill, which helps users format images for various platforms.
Adobe is consistently enhancing its capabilities, integrating features that allow its AI assistants to function seamlessly with third-party large language models. While competing platforms like Canva and Figma also strive to offer efficient workflows, Adobe positions its strength in the cohesive integration of its well-established tools.
Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of AI and innovation in the creativity and productivity sector, commented on the potential of the Firefly AI assistant to simplify the learning curve associated with using their extensive range of tools, thus enhancing user accessibility.
In addition, Adobe is enhancing the capabilities of its Firefly tool specifically for AI video editing, now introducing noise reduction for audio, adjustable reverb, colour adjustment options, and better integration with Adobe’s stock library. The Firefly system will also be enriched with new third-party AI models, including Kling 3.0 and Kling 3.0 Omni.
With these advancements, Adobe is set to redefine the user experience in digital creativity, making powerful tools more user-friendly and intuitively integrated.
