Adobe has recently shifted its focus from professionals to students by introducing a new AI tool called Acrobat Spaces, designed to enhance the functionality of Adobe Acrobat for academic purposes. This tool enables students to effortlessly create presentations, flashcards, and quizzes from a variety of educational materials, including PDFs, links, and handwritten notes.
In a bid to compete with existing AI platforms like Google’s NotebookLM, Goodnotes, and Turbo AI, Adobe is offering Acrobat Spaces as a free service, accessible via a dedicated website. Users can begin utilising the tool without needing to log in, fostering convenience and immediate access.
Students can upload multiple document types—such as PDFs, Docs, PowerPoint, Excel files, URLs, handwritten notes, and transcripts—to generate diverse study aids, including mind maps, quizzes, and audio podcasts, the latter being a feature that was recently added to Adobe Acrobat. This allows users to listen to material related to their studies, enhancing comprehension.
Acrobat Spaces also includes a chat function where students can question an AI-powered assistant, which references the uploaded documents to minimise inaccuracies in responses. Adobe has developed this tool in consultation with around 500 students across notable universities like Harvard, UC Berkeley, and Brown, ensuring it meets their academic needs.
Charlie Miller, Adobe’s VP of Education, highlighted the company’s ambition to provide a comprehensive platform for students, combining document consumption and material creation within one application. He stated that many students appreciate Acrobat as a central hub for their studies, as it eliminates the hassle of juggling between various tools when organising their materials.
Overall, Adobe’s Acrobat Spaces represents a significant enhancement for academic users, consolidating various study functionalities into a single accessible platform, thereby streamlining the learning process.
