a16z Welcomes VC Tech Podcaster Erik Torenberg as Their New Partner Through Acqui-Hire

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has ramped up its hiring efforts by bringing Erik Torenberg on board. Announced on Monday, Torenberg’s acquisition of his podcast, Turpentine, coincides with his new role as general partner at the prominent venture capital firm.

Torenberg’s podcast has carved a niche by interviewing venture capitalists from various firms, delving into their investment strategies. Notable recent guests include Andrew Braccia from Accel, Alexis Ohanian from Seven Seven Six, and Benchmark’s Sarah Tavel and Eric Vishria.

While he intends to continue producing his podcast, it remains to be seen if he will alter its focus, especially given that a16z already generates substantial corporate content, including podcasts that typically spotlight founders rather than VCs.

His addition seems like a strategic fit for a16z. Prior to joining, Torenberg was an early employee at Product Hunt and has made a name for himself as both an angel investor and a professional venture capitalist. Over the past seven years, he operated at Village Global, where he was instrumental in launching On Deck, a program dedicated to nurturing future founders. His investment portfolio boasts names like Scale AI, Lattice, Figma, Perplexity, Replit, and Flexport, among others.

In recent months, the venture firm has also expanded its team by hiring former North Carolina Congressman Patrick McHenry and ex-U.S. Marine Daniel Penny, signalling a commitment to diversify its expertise.
