A New Children’s Series Set to Launch This Fall Will Include a Cryptocurrency Wallet

by admin

A new animated children’s series titled “Owen Nowhere,” produced by We Ghosted Media, will break traditional release models by debuting on a decentralised web platform using blockchain technology, rather than on television or streaming services. Founded by Chris Jammal and Jaclynn Demas—key figures in popular animated shows—the studio seeks to innovate within children’s entertainment by embracing a web3 approach, which fosters direct audience engagement.

We Ghosted Media has partnered with Lamina1, a blockchain platform launched by renowned author Neal Stephenson, aimed at empowering creators in protecting and monetising their intellectual property while contributing to the development of an open metaverse. “Owen Nowhere” features the eccentric adventures of Owen B. Gloom, a preteen content creator exploring quirky tourist attractions alongside his quirky adoptive vampire parents and a magical vehicle.

The creators see this series as a stepping stone towards redefining children’s entertainment in the decentralised context, which will encourage audience participation. Through Lamina1’s upcoming “Spaces,” creators can design immersive digital experiences, incorporating various interactions, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) formats. Jammal and Demas envision allowing viewers to influence the storyline actively, such as suggesting destinations for Owen’s adventures or customizing his digital assets.

However, introducing a children’s series within a blockchain framework poses unique challenges, particularly regarding parental concerns about cryptocurrency management. While some parents are receptive, others may hesitate due to potential risks associated with crypto environments. Lamina1 CEO Rebecca Barkin acknowledges the ongoing discussions around necessary protections for young viewers, emphasizing the importance of transparency and possibly parental controls.

Ultimately, the project aspires to not only captivate its young audience but also engage parents, similar to how shows like “Bob’s Burgers” resonate with older viewers. The studio aims to build a community of supporters who can contribute creatively and financially, and their digital assets will offer fans a chance to own collectibles related to the show, potentially enhancing viewer loyalty and interaction.

Set to launch in autumn, Lamina1’s “Spaces” will also host other projects, like “Artefact” from visual effects specialists Wētā. With backing from prominent investors, including LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, the platform is poised to make waves in the entertainment industry. “Owen Nowhere” seeks to establish a new entertainment norm for future generations, combining storytelling with innovative technology.
