Google Play Introduces ‘Verified’ Badge for Trustworthy VPN Applications

by admin

Google Play is introducing “Verified” badges for select VPN applications to assist users in locating trustworthy services. According to a blog post released on Tuesday, apps that earn this badge place a strong emphasis on user privacy and security.

The badge signifies that the developers of a VPN application have complied with Google Play’s safety and security protocols and have completed a Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 validation, which assures that the app has undergone thorough security checks.

To qualify for the Verified badge, a VPN app must meet specific criteria, including having a minimum of 10,000 installs and 250 user reviews. Additionally, the app should be available on Google Play for no less than 90 days and must adhere to the target API level standards for apps listed on the platform.

According to Google, the Verified badge is intended to help these apps differentiate themselves, as it will be prominently displayed on the app’s information page and in search results. The tech giant has also created new features within Google Play to highlight verified VPN applications.

In its blog post, Google stated, “This new badge aims to spotlight applications that prioritize user privacy and safety, empowering users to make informed decisions regarding the VPN applications they choose and fostering trust in the apps they ultimately install.”

This initiative aligns with Google’s ongoing efforts to promote the visibility of safe applications within its marketplace. Following this, the company introduced “Government” labels in Google Play last May to identify official state and federal government applications.
