Millennium Space, Boeing’s Satellite Manufacturing Subsidiary, Sees Its CEO Silently Depart from the Company

by admin

Jason Kim is stepping down as CEO of Boeing’s satellite manufacturing arm, Millennium Space Systems, a position he has held for almost four years, according to sources close to TechCrunch.

Since Boeing’s acquisition of Millennium Space Systems in 2018, the company has landed significant contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense. These contracts include developing satellites for missile tracking and other security measures. Moreover, Millennium embarked on a notable mission termed “Victus Nox” with the U.S. Space Force, aiming to set a precedent in deploying defense satellites swiftly.

In a noteworthy achievement, Millennium, in collaboration with Firefly Space, demonstrated remarkable efficiency by integrating a satellite and launch vehicle in just 58 hours, achieving operational status shortly thereafter – within 37 hours post-launch.

A Millennium spokesperson expressed appreciation for Kim’s leadership, which contributed to the company’s growth and nearly a thousand-strong workforce. They also shared the company’s intention to soon reveal the new CEO, who is expected to uphold the spirit and rapid execution ethos of Millennium Space Systems. The company remains dedicated to fulfilling its client commitments as before.

Kim himself has not commented on his departure. It’s noteworthy that Kim joined Millennium approximately two years after its acquisition by Boeing, taking over from founder and long-time CEO Stan Dubyn. With a background that includes senior roles at Raytheon’s space division and Northrop Grumman, and service in the U.S. Air Force, Kim brought considerable experience to Millennium.

This leadership change occurs amidst broader challenges within Boeing’s space sector, highlighted by the technical difficulties encountered during the Starliner mission aimed at docking with the International Space Station. While the specifics behind Kim’s exit remain undisclosed, it is a period of notable executive shifts within the aerospace industry, as evidenced by recent turbulence at Firefly Space following investigative reports about its CEO.
