The days of parents being tied to transportation duties for their children’s extracurricular engagements could soon be over, thanks to Waymo’s robotaxis.
According to a piece by the San Francisco Standard, available at this link, Waymo, a company under Alphabet Inc., is contemplating a service plan aimed at teenagers. This would permit them to summon a vehicle independently, with notifications about their pickups and drop-offs sent directly to their parents. Waymo has tentatively named this initiative “Waymo Teen,” and survey feedback has highlighted a pricing model of $150 to $250 monthly for a maximum of 16 rides.
A representative from Waymo communicated to TechCrunch, “Our investigations into allowing teenagers to use [Waymo] with parental oversight have been met with encouraging responses from our preliminary studies in this sphere.”
Waymo is not alone in targeting the adolescent demographic to expand its customer base. Uber also initiated services last year that connect teenagers, specifically those aged 13 to 17, with its top-rated drivers. This service mandates approval from the teenagers’ legal guardians, who are then kept updated about their children’s ride status.
