Over 16 weeks, Anthropic’s AI application Claude has achieved a significant financial milestone, amassing over $1 million in total revenue on mobile platforms, including both iOS and Android. Remarkably, nearly half of this revenue originated from users in the United States, according to insights provided by the application analytics company Appfigures.
In spite of this success, Claude lags considerably behind its main competitor, ChatGPT, in terms of market presence. Specifically, in the U.S., ChatGPT holds the top spot for overall downloads and sits at 26th in revenue on iOS, while Claude ranks 95th in download numbers and 68th in revenue within the Productivity category.

Initial reactions to Claude’s mobile debut were underwhelming, with the app securing only 157,000 downloads worldwide in its first week. In stark contrast, ChatGPT amassed 480,000 mobile app installations within its first five days, focused solely on an iOS launch in the U.S. Market data revealed Claude’s peak U.S. ranking shortly after its iOS debut was 55th on the top free iPhone app chart, as noted by Appfigures.
However, Claude managed to surpass other AI app rivals in the race to $1 million in revenue, despite trailing significantly behind ChatGPT, which achieved the milestone in just three weeks. Claude outperformed Microsoft’s Copilot and Perplexity, which required 19 and 22 weeks, respectively, to reach the revenue benchmark.

In terms of downloads, Claude’s largest market is the U.S., capturing 32.5% of the total, followed by India, Japan, the U.K., and Germany. Together, these five nations represent 57.2% of Claude’s installation base.
A similar pattern is evident in the revenue distribution, with the U.S. leading at 48.4%, and subsequent contributions from Japan, Germany, the U.K., and South Korea, combining for a total of 66.8% of Claude’s earnings.
Despite its significant cash burn rate and the specific challenges it faces in the mobile market, Claude’s outlook may be further complicated by imminent competitive developments, such as Apple Intelligence’s upcoming feature that offers Siri users direct access to ChatGPT on their iPhones.
