Condé Nast, the media giant behind iconic publications such as The New Yorker, Vogue, and Wired, has entered into an agreement with OpenAI. This collaboration will enable OpenAI to showcase stories from Condé Nast’s collection on its AI-driven conversation service, ChatGPT, and the experimental SearchGPT platform.
Details regarding the agreement remain under wraps. However, Condé Nast’s CEO, Roger Lynch, hinted in a communication with employees that OpenAI would offer compensation in exchange for access to Condé Nast’s material. Moreover, a representative from Condé Nast confirmed to TechCrunch that the company has granted OpenAI the rights to utilize its content for machine learning purposes.
OpenAI has chosen not to respond to inquiries.
Condé Nast joins the ranks of other prominent publishing entities that have negotiated the use of their content by OpenAI. This list includes notable names such as the Associated Press, Axel Springer, The Atlantic, Financial Times, News Corp, and Time.
As reported by TC, these agreements have been forged without the direct involvement of the journalists and editors, leading to some dissatisfaction within the ranks.
