On Tuesday, Renovate Robotics introduced their latest innovation in construction automation, the Rufus V1 rooftop robot. This advanced system represents a significant evolution from the early prototypes demonstrated by the New York-based company earlier in the year, automating one of the most frequent and perilous tasks in construction. Since our initial report in May 2023, when their technology consisted of multiple DeWalt nail guns affixed to a gantry system, the progress made by the startup is evident.
According to Renovate, the new model outperforms its predecessor in both speed and precision, despite being about half the weight. Its arm’s adaptable design allows for the attachment of various end effectors to carry out different jobs. Currently, Rufus is equipped solely to lay shingles. However, future models are expected to have the capability to remove shingles and undertake solar panel installations as well.
