Historically, profit-making and environmental conservation rarely went hand in hand. However, as the effects of climate change become more pronounced, a new wave of startups and investors has arisen, demonstrating that it’s possible to contribute positively to the planet while also pursuing financial gains.
It’s with great anticipation that we announce the participation of Rebecca Hu, co-founder and CEO of Glacier; Allison Wolff, co-founder and CEO of Vibrant Planet; along with Hyuk-Jeen Suh, co-founder of Venx and a general partner at SkyRiver Ventures, as they grace the Builders Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, happening from October 28–30 in San Francisco.
During their panel “How Startups Can Save the World,” this trio of trailblazers will delve into the creation of businesses focused on climate solutions. They’ll discuss the challenges and opportunities of venturing into new markets, the ways their commitment to the environment fuels innovation and team growth, and the strategy behind balancing ecological concern with profitability.
Rebecca Hu was motivated to co-create Glacier as a response to the urgent problem of waste management. Employing AI, Glacier develops robots that accurately and quickly sort recyclable materials from trash, utilizing real-time data from numerous sensors, thereby aiding corporations and governmental bodies in elevating their recycling efforts from their current, insufficient levels.
The devastating wildfires throughout California deeply affected Allison Wolff, prompting her to establish Vibrant Planet. Her venture leverages software and data to foster collaboration among diverse parties—governments, businesses, nonprofits, and citizens—to formulate sustainable approaches for wildfire prevention, ecosystem preservation, and carbon reduction.
Hyuk-Jeen Suh, after years of investing in cutting-edge technology, realized the potential benefits of investors banding together to scale their efforts. This epiphany led to the foundation of Venx, an innovative venture designed to enhance the efficiency and impact of investments by adopting a collective approach reminiscent of startup accelerators.
