Rimac Enhances Performance with the Latest Electric Hypercar, the Nevera R, Starting at $2.5 Million

by admin

From humble beginnings in a garage, Croatian EV pioneer Rimac has evolved, merging with luxury automaker Bugatti, to enhance its Nevera hypercar even further, packing it with unprecedented power.

At The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering event during Monterey Car Week, Rimac unveiled the Nevera R on Friday. This all-electric beast aims to redefine high performance, boasting 2,107 horsepower, capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in a mere 1.74 seconds, and achieving speeds up to 217 mph, or 256 mph under Rimac’s meticulous adjustments. Details on its range remain undisclosed.

Rimac’s ambitions for the Nevera R, signified by the ‘R’ for radical, rebellious, and relentless, shine through in the vehicle’s design—highlighted by larger back wheels, a significantly low front, and a towering rear wing, all wrapped in a carbon fiber shell epitomizing its extreme performance nature.

The Nevera R’s design ensures it excels not just in straight lines but in corners too, thanks to its quartet of electric motors, advanced ceramic brakes, a new 108 kilowatt-hour battery pack, cutting-edge Michelin Pilot Cup tires, and all-wheel torque vectoring, as explained by Rimac Automobili founder Mate Rimac.

“Power was never lacking in the Nevera,” CEO Mate Rimac remarked. “Yet, we opted to extract a bit more, something we knew was achievable, while also bestowing it with a more aggressive and captivating aesthetic than before.”

Only 40 units of the Nevera R will be crafted, each with a starting price of €2.3 million (equivalent to $2.5 million with the current exchange rates).

For context, the original two-seater Nevera boasts 1,914 horsepower, can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 1.85 seconds, and tops out at 258 mph. When its production commenced in 2022, at a price tag of $2.5 million, it was the quickest production car available.

Mate Rimac, who founded the Rimac Automobili brand in 2009 as a 21-year-old student, launched the world’s first all-electric hypercar, the Concept One, by 2011. The Nevera was a progression of the Concept Two.

By 2021, when the Nevera made its debut, Rimac had achieved unicorn status and also initiated a technology subsidiary to supply cutting-edge EV parts to automotive giants, including Hyundai and Porsche. That year, a merger with the legendary French supercar brand Bugatti was announced.

Rimac’s corporate landscape, now more intricate with its start in Mate Rimac’s garage, encompasses Bugatti-Rimac (focused on combustion, electric, and hybrid hypercars) and is primarily owned by Rimac Group, with Porsche holding a 45% stake. Additionally, Rimac Automobili under Bugatti-Rimac serves as the flagship EV hypercar brand, alongside other ventures like Rimac Technology and the newly founded robotaxi company, Verne.

“As you can observe, our range of endeavors is vast,” stated Mate Rimac, hinting at the dynamic operations within the company.

The unveiling of the Nevera R comes at a time of fluctuating fortunes in the EV market. While global EV sales are on the rise, automakers in the U.S. and Europe grapple with producing affordable electric vehicles, sidelining the pricier luxury models. Amidst this, Rimac shines as a beacon of success, focusing on a niche market of collectors rather than mass-market affordability, according to Mate Rimac.
