Waymo Plans to Intensify Winter Testing for Its Autonomous Taxis

by admin

Waymo consistently embarks on wintery expeditions to evaluate its self-driving cars under snow-laden conditions. The location was Michigan in 2017, followed by Buffalo during the preceding year.

This season, Waymo plans to explore various snowy regions, such as Truckee in California, parts of Upstate New York, and areas in Michigan stretching from the Upper Peninsula to the metropolitan Detroit zone.

It remains unconfirmed if Waymo intends to test its Zeekr vehicles in these colder climates, however, the company is set to rigorously test its fifth and sixth-generation Driver technologies. Notably, the sixth-generation Driver has been equipped with hardware optimized for cold weather, featuring sensors capable of deicing themselves.

While specific details of the testing regime are limited, it is known that all trials will be conducted with a human safety driver present at the wheel.
