Opera is unveiling its revamped Opera One browser for iOS users, transitioning from its beta version to a stable release. This latest iteration incorporates a search bar at the bottom, intuitive search suggestions as you type, and the integration of the Aria AI assistant.
The search bar is set at the bottom by default for enhanced user experience, but there is an option for users to switch to Standard Navigation or the Fast Action Button layout. Additionally, users can pull down to reveal the search bar, similar to the Spotlight search functionality on iOS.
Opera introduces its own autocomplete suggestions in the form of chipsets below the search box, aimed at streamlining the search process whenever a user types a query into the search engine.
The browser has undergone thoughtful design refinements, including auto-hiding the top and bottom bars for an immersive full-screen experience when scrolling, with the top status bar’s color adapting to match the theme of the website being viewed.
Additionally, Opera is introducing a fresh carousel layout to replace its traditional newsfeed, featuring personalized news updates, live sports scores, and recommendations on products.
Opera introduced its AI-driven assistant, Aria, in May 2023, making it accessible on the iOS platform by August 2023. The Opera One browser enhances Aria with capabilities for voice commands and generating images.
According to mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, the Opera browser has amassed over 50 million downloads on iOS since 2020. Despite this, the browser has seen fluctuating growth rates, with increases of 58%, 25%, and 4% in 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively. Due to regulatory changes in the EU mandating iOS to present users with a browser selection screen, Opera experienced a significant surge in downloads by 122% in Q2 2024, highlighting the EU as Opera’s largest market.
