Amazon Music Unveils AI-Driven Feature for Topic-Based Podcast Episode Discovery

by admin

Amazon Music has unveiled a cutting-edge AI feature called “Topics” on Tuesday, enabling users to delve into podcast episodes by pinpointing specific subjects discussed.

Upon accessing a podcast episode’s page, users will notice the addition of Topic tags beneath the episode summary. These tags can be clicked on to reveal a collection of episodes that share the same subject matter, facilitating the discovery of podcasts on niche interests like “Coffee” or “Dopamine,” beyond the conventional genres such as Comedy and News.

This innovative feature is powered by technology from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and supplemented by human effort. The AI sifts through podcast transcripts and outlines to pinpoint prominent subjects, followed by the human team’s selection of pertinent tags for the episode page.

Available immediately for all Amazon Music users in the U.S. across both iOS and Android devices, this feature is being introduced across leading podcasts accessible via Amazon Music, including notable names like The Daily, SmartLess, and This American Life. Additionally, there’s an initiative to broaden the scope of Topics to encompass more podcast material, thereby enriching the list of related episodes and expanding the array of subjects covered.

Amazon Music is also enhancing its platform with Maestro, another AI-driven function that crafts playlists in response to user queries. This feature entered beta phase earlier in April. These AI integrations follow the company’s acquisition of Snackable AI the previous year, a move aimed at boosting the podcast experience on Amazon Music through advanced content discovery capabilities.
