X Unveils Lackluster Grok-Driven ‘More About This Account’ Functionality

by admin

Elon Musk has initiated experiments on X with the Grok model’s AI functionalities since the inception of xAI the previous year.

X transcends the functionalities of a mere chatbot by leveraging the model to distill news and current happenings. A recent addition is the “More About This Account” functionality that aims to deliver brief AI-driven insights about users, though its effectiveness seems lacking.

Subscribers encounter the “More About This Account” option as they hover over a username or display label online, triggering an AI-generated summary upon interaction. However, Grok’s responses range from vaguely applicable to outright inaccurate.

For example, querying Grok about my fellows, Sean O’Kane and Amanda Silberling, resulted in general comments regarding their posting habits on the platform.

Surprisingly, it designated my coworker Jagmeet Singh as a connoisseur of Canadian affairs, a topic he seldom discusses.

Additionally, Grok labeled TechCrunch editor Ram Iyer as affiliated with brunch content.

In an amusing turn, when inquiring about Hardik Pandya from the ed-tech company Unacademy, Grok confused him with the renowned Indian cricketer bearing the same name.

X concedes that Grok, being in its preliminary version 1.5, is prone to errors and advises verification of its outputs.

Even in instances where Grok delivers correct information, it seldom provides insight beyond what is observable from the user’s profile and biography.

With direct access to X’s extensive user data, Grok could have furnished more accurate and useful user insights through this feature, which evidently warrants further development.
