Meta AI Unveils Innovative ‘Imagine Me’ Selfie Functionality

by admin

Meta’s artificial intelligence assistant, now integrated across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the wider internet, has been upgraded to communicate in additional languages and to craft personalized, stylized self-portraits. From today, those utilizing Meta’s AI services have the option to direct their inquiries to the latest and most sophisticated AI model yet, Llama 3.1 405B. This update, according to the company, is equipped to manage queries of higher complexity compared to its predecessor.

Critically, it remains to be seen if these updates will significantly enhance the user experience with Meta AI, which has been criticized for its lackluster performance at inception by several reviewers including Devin Coldewey from TechCrunch. Initial versions of Meta AI had trouble with accurate information retrieval, stumbling over simple tasks like searching for recipes or flight prices.

Llama 3.1 405B introduces hope for improvement, with Meta promoting its special proficiency with mathematical and programming queries. This positions it as a potentially invaluable tool for assistance with mathematical homework, the explanation of scientific principles, and debugging of code, among other tasks.

Yet, there is a caveat for users of Meta AI looking to leverage Llama 3.1 405B’s capabilities; it must be manually selected, and usage is capped at a predefined number of requests weekly before defaulting back to the less advanced Llama 3.1 70B model.

For now, Meta describes the integration of Llama 3.1 405B into its ecosystem as a “preview.”

Innovative Selfie Creation

Additionally, Meta AI introduces a new generative AI model for its selfie feature alongside Llama 3.1 405B.

Dubbed “Imagine Yourself,” this model can generate customized images using a photo and a prompt, such as “Imagine me surfing” or “Imagine me on a beach vacation.” In its beta phase, users can invoke this feature by entering “Imagine me” followed by a suitable prompt, steering clear of anything NSFW.

While Meta has not disclosed the specific data used to train “Imagine Yourself,” it is clear from the company’s terms of use that public posts and images across its platforms may be utilized, a policy that has drawn criticism for its complicated opt-out procedures.

Meta AI is also introducing editing tools that allow users to modify imagery with simple prompts, further elaborating next month with an “Edit with AI” functionality for more intricate adjustments. Additionally, Meta AI plans to unveil shortcuts for easily sharing AI-crafted images directly to various Meta platforms soon.

Expanded Language Support and Quest Integration

Another significant development is Meta AI taking over the voice commands feature in Meta Quest’s VR headset, set to launch in experimental mode in the U.S. and Canada. With it, users can interact with their physical environment through Meta AI, asking for recommendations like finding a suitable top to match a pair of shorts.

As of today, Meta’s AI assistant operates in 22 countries, with the latest additions including countries from Latin America and Cameroon. It now accommodates multiple new languages including French, German, Hindi, Hindi-Romanized Script, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, with assurances of further language additions in the future.
