In Florida, a man is eagerly waiting to propose to his beloved on a picturesque beach vacation. Unfortunately, he was unable to secure the engagement ring before departing from New England. However, this hiccup seemed manageable as his future step-daughter, Nicole, was due to fly down for her mother’s birthday celebration in Florida, tasked with bringing the ring along.

Ideally, Nicole, who prefers to keep her surname anonymous to maintain the surprise proposal, would arrive in Florida by Friday, ring in hand, setting the stage for her mother’s fairy-tale engagement. What was poised to be a memorable weekend, however, has spiraled into an unexpected twist worthy of a rom-com plot, all thanks to a sweeping CrowdStrike outage.

This outage has thrown plans into disarray for thousands globally, impacting a vast number of Microsoft Windows-operated computers. The aviation sector has been hit hard, with FlightAware reporting over 3,500 flight cancellations and an additional 31,000 delays.

The situation has introduced unnecessary complications, Nicole shared with TechCrunch, especially concerning the safe transportation of the engagement ring.

The Delta flight Nicole intended to board with her husband on early Friday is now postponed until at least 3 p.m. ET.

In a conversation with her mother, Nicole revealed her mom’s awareness of the turmoil at the airports, suggesting they cancel their flight. Nicole’s response: “But, we can’t just not show up.”

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz clarified on x.com that the root cause was a flawed content update for Windows, dismissing any suggestions of a cyberattack or security breach. Yet, the extensive disruption sparked by this fault raises concerns among CrowdStrike’s extensive client base, which includes a significant chunk of the Fortune 500 and Fortune 1,000 companies.

Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, conveyed through CNBC that despite the identification of the problem, travelers might still face ongoing disturbances from this glitch.

“Due to the tight scheduling of flight operations, the aftermath of the issue might continue affecting flights throughout the day, even after resolving the root cause,” Buttigieg explained.

Nicole—alongside countless other travelers disrupted by this incident—is left with nothing but to wait.

“Her birthday is tomorrow, and that’s when he planned to propose. At this point, it’s all so uncertain. We’re just taking it hour by hour,” she disclosed.

Stay tuned as we continue to follow this story to discover whether true love can overcome technological glitches the outcome of the proposal.
