In the second quarter of 2024, Lucid Motors set a new company record by delivering 2,394 electric vehicles (EVs), signaling a positive turn in its efforts to secure a stronger position in the ever-expanding electric vehicle marketplace. This was highlighted as an achievement against a backdrop of a dynamic market environment.
This performance surpasses Lucid’s previous best, established in the first quarter of the same year with 1,967 luxury sedans delivered. The California-based manufacturer, supported by Saudi investment, has sought to attract a wider audience for its Lucid Air sedan by reducing prices and introducing more accessible models.
Originally, pricing for the various Lucid Air models typically started at — or went beyond — the $100,000 mark since the sedan began shipping in 2021. However, recent adjustments have significantly lowered the entry price to $69,900 for the basic model.
“This is potentially a breakthrough moment. We’re gaining sales momentum, we’ve got a growing efficiency edge, and there’s an overwhelming interest from both individual buyers and corporate clients,” said CEO Peter Rawlinson in May, commenting on the financial outcomes for the first quarter.
Amid these advancements, Lucid is preparing to launch its Gravity SUV by the year’s end, anticipating this new model will attract even more U.S. consumers. The announcement about the deliveries for the second quarter was made in a Monday morning press statement, which also noted the company managed to manufacture 2,110 vehicles in this timeframe.
The announcement of Lucid’s sales figures follows closely on the heels of its competitors, Rivian and Tesla, who shared their quarterly delivery data last week. While Rivian’s sales figures showed little change from the previous quarter and from year-to-year, Tesla has seen an increase from its first quarter, but a decline when comparing year-over-year.
