Microsoft has officially announced on Wednesday that its AI-powered Designer app has moved out of preview and is now broadly accessible to users across iOS and Android platforms. Mimicking the functionalities of Canva, the app empowers users to craft images and designs using simple text commands for creating a range of items like stickers, greeting cards, invitations, and collages among others.
Now made available in over 80 languages, Designer can be accessed via the web, as a complimentary mobile application, and also as a native Windows app.
The application boasts “prompt templates” crafted to kickstart users’ creative journeys. These templates feature various styles and descriptions that users are encouraged to tweak and personalize. Moreover, the facility to share these templates enables collaborative creativity and idea development.
Beyond stickers, the application allows for the creation of emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars, and more through textual prompts.
Designer also offers functionalities to edit and modify images with AI support. Users can upload personal images and apply selected styles, injecting additional details to witness a complete transformation of their uploads.

In the near future, Designer will feature an innovative “replace background” functionality, enabling users to dramatically change images using text-based commands.
With the rollout of the independent Designer app, Microsoft has revealed plans to incorporate the service into applications such as Word and PowerPoint through Copilot. Copilot Pro subscribers will be able to craft images and designs seamlessly within their documents. Additionally, an upcoming feature will enable creating document-specific banners in Word, enhancing document presentation based on its content.
In conjunction with the announcement, Microsoft disclosed that Microsoft Photos for Windows 11 is set to benefit from a tighter integration with Designer, allowing for an enriched photo editing experience directly within the Photos application. This includes advanced capabilities like erasing objects, background removal, and auto-cropping directly within the Photos interface.
